Calls to defund or abolish the police are usually calls to reform the police, not get rid all policing permanently. Examples often cited as police abolition success stories in fact are examples of reform, e.g. the Republic of Georgia in 2004 and Camden, NJ in 2013. In other scenarios, police-like agencies such as the sheriff's department shoulder the burden of responding to crime reports and apprehending suspects in criminal cases when budget woes have seen off the local police force. If a city government or state literally decided to spend $0 or effort responding to and investigating crime reports and enforcing the law, it's unlikely they would be re-elected. If an arrest warrant is issued under due process by a court, someone is going to have to execute that warrant whether you call them "the police" or use some other name for the office. Without the ability to enforce the law, governments would be toothless in the face of criminality, which is often concentrated in poorer neighborhoods over-represented by people of color. People affected by crime with no recourse to legal response would have to deal with it themselves, which does not predict great outcomes. There are many countries that have worked out how to police society effectively without harassing, brutalizing and killing their citizens. US cities should study those examples and fix the problems of policing. Abolishing the police literally and permanently is not a practical solution.

Previous examples of often cited of police defunding -- the Republic of Georgia in 2004 and Camden, NJ in 2013 -- we actually police retraining exercises, in which all or most of the currently serving officers were fired, and later replaced under new policies.

The carbon footprint of manufacturing new electric cars far outweighs the benefits of eliminating exhaust emissions from already built gasoline powered cars. Unless you use renewable energy, charging an electric car will produce just under 1/2 the emissions of driving a midsized gas car. If we want to reduce CO2 we should stop making so many new cars, even if they are electric, and focus on getting people to keep their current vehicles longer, and drive them less, instead.

This is transparently not a measure of percent of "taxable income" paid but overall percentage of tax paid on wealth. It is research sponsored by the White House to justify its tax proposal to change the current rules to include unrealized gains and dividends.

Lottery winners is not defined clearly. Are we talking about people who won millions, or people who won a small amount on a scratcher? There are many anecdotal examples of people who won big on the lottery only to lose it all, so it's 
a complicated topic. As far as I can tell there is no definitive study. There is a lot of conflicting research on the impact of lotteries on personal wealth and happiness, one suspects much of it is funded by vested interests that benefit from lotteries, including governments, that do not want to see negative narratives emerge around the practice (the link below aggregates some scholarly articles on the topic).
